Mutation is a change that occurs in the deoxyribonucleic acid sequence, gene or structure, due to mistakes that occur when the DNA is transcripted or because of environmental changes. Mutation occurs when there is a mistake in the DNA structure or when an uncomplimentary base is found in the DNA. As a result there are different amino acids which can stop the codon. Mutation can form because of natural causes such as ultraviolet radiation from the sun. However they can also occur due to environmental factors , such as chemicals or ionizing radiation.
There are many ways that DNA can mutate such as substitution this is a mutation that exchanges one base for another. For example a change in a single molecule or switching an A to a G. Substitution can also change a codon to one that transmits a different amino acid and cause a small change in the protein. Insertion is another form of mutation which adds extra base pairs into a new place in the DNA. Deletions are mutations that are …show more content…
Some examples of harmful mutations are Epidermodysplasia Verruciform however this mutation is extremely rare. It is also referred to as the tree man disorder. The mutation occurs when the the skin begins to form a disorder identified as rising a wart like tissues that may occur anywhere on the body. These tissues are caused by infection with the human papillomavirus. Progeria is another example of a harmful mutation. Progeria is a genetic mutation that causes changes in the aging in children. However this mutation is a rare condition that is caused
