In the article “Why Teach Your Child to Read” they show that “a healthy baby is born with 200 billion active brain cells . . . given the right stimulation each cell is capable of sprouting up to 20,000 different dendrites, connections, between them which store information” (“Why Reading..”). This shows how much a babies brain can grow in just a short amount of time. It is also stated that “when a child is taught to read, the process of leaning has a profound influence on the entire development and function of the brain” (“Why Reading...”).
