The Phoenicians also known as Canaanites were people around 1,500-65 BCE who lived in Phoenicia. Phoenicia was an ancient civilization that held some of the best sailors and a strong army in the time. They actually also made a writing system to help them with trading but, soon after the Greeks actually took from them. Since, they were such good sailors they controlled trade in much of the Mediterranean Sea from 1,100 to 800 and they helped accomplish that by spreading rumors about monsters in the sea.
