For more than 200 years, the Army has been a wellspring of professional values. With recent wars, technology, and human rights freedoms and protections, the Army failed to police their own. Plagued with rape, sexual assault, and Soldiers violating human rights during battle the Army began to lose the peoples’ trust of policing their own. The Army develops Soldiers and leaders to be technical, moral, cultural, and self-identified professionals. It achieves all this by providing the basics of landpower, training in their professional field, applying their expertise in operations, and then certifying the professional. The certification of a professional is ongoing till the day they leave service. Honorable service is service that a professional provides without disgracing its profession in defense of their nation. In addition, embodiment of the Constitution, Army ethics, and values constitutes for an honorable service. In the Army trust is held highly due to the nature of our profession. At the lowest level leaders and Soldiers must maintain a positive level of trust in order to operate and fulfill the mission. If an Army professional does not have the competence, character, or commitment that individual will not earn the trust of others. This trust holds true between the Army and the families of its professionals, civilians, and society. Adhering to the Army ethics develops trust between leaders and Soldiers. The Army ethics fundamentals are broken into four categories the professional and the profession as well as the legal and moral foundations.
