The glycemic index that is found in diets refers to the measurement that is carried out in regards to carbohydrate-containing foods and their impact on blood sugar and insulin responses. Glycemic-load, the sum of the glycemic loads for all foods in a particular diet, is calculated in many of the studies in order to investigate if glycemic-load diets influence acne. Moreover, the Western diet, defined as one high in saturated fats, sugar, red meats, “junk food,” and low in fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, has been found to play a major role in the association between diet and acne. The aspects of this study will be focusing mainly on the general correlation between diet and acne investigating simply if diet influences the formation of any type of acne, whether mild or severe, and what characteristics of diet play the biggest role in the overall effect diet has on acne. According to other research studies, how and in what way, if any, are diet and the formation of acne vulgaris associated with each other? Researchers have gathered results on the link between the Western diet, glycemic index, and acne using different methodologies.
