An Inconvenient Truth is a documentary film directed by Davis Guggenheim about former United States Vice President Al Gore 's campaign to educate citizens about global warming through comprehensive slide show. The movie starts with Al Gore briefing about the first picture of the Earth from the space, which was taken on a Christmas Eve, 1968 during an Apollo 8 mission (Earth Rise) and tells us that the thin shell of atmosphere is filling up with pollution. The next picture was taken on mission Apollo 17 till then the modern environmental movement had begun. Another image was taken by a spacecraft called Galileo, it took a time lapse picture of one day 's worth of rotation. A friend of Al Gore also took 3000 satellite …show more content…
In the year 2003 Europe was by heat wave which led to the death of around 35000 people. In Andhra Pradesh (India) temperature went as high as 50°C leading to 1400 deaths. 200 hundred other cities and town in the west set all time records for high temperatures. Same is the case with oceans, the temperature is continuously rising which leads to stronger storms. Some of the big hurricanes were Jeanne, Frances, Ivan in Florida. In the year 2004, United States also set an all time record for tornadoes (1,717). Japan set record for typhoons (10). Brazil also recorded its first ever hurricane in the year 2004. Many other disastrous hurricanes occurred in the following year and the results were catastrophic. Katrina is one of them which killed a lot of people and caused billions of dollar 's worth damage. Before hitting New Orleans it went over warm waters which increased the wind velocity and the moisture content and the results were horrendous. One of the unnoticed effects of global warming is that it causes more precipitation but more of it coming in one-time big storm events. Floods occurred in Mumbai, India (2005), water levels reached 37 ft. and death toll reached 1000. This was the largest downpour in any city of India. China also had a lot of …show more content…
In the Arctic region the sea-ice extent has dropped by ~ 1.5 million km2 since 1970 and the study shows that within the next 50-70 years it will be completely gone. Currently this ice cap works as a mirror so as the sunrays fall on it, it gets reflected again but the ice starts melting and sooner it will completely melt, and the water will heat faster. This will also lead to destruction of habitat of animals living there. This also has a great impact on the entire planet if with rise in 1° at the equator it will lead to 12° increase at the poles, so all those wind and ocean current patterns which have been formed since the ice age will all be up in the air. This also has an impact on the seasons. In the US pine beetles used to be killed by cold winters but now there are fewer days of frost. There is also an increase in the infectious diseases as the vectors are moving above as the ice melts which is worrisome to the US. Coral reefs are also getting affected by global warming and other factors and the fishes which are dependent on it are also in jeopardy.
Al Gore now takes us through the second canary in the coal mine that is the Antarctica which is has the largest mass of ice on the planet. There has been loss of large ice chunks as well as the region has warmed up by 2.5°C in last 50 years. The sea-based ice started cracking up due to which the land
