The idea of expectancy resulted into what people will predict will happen rather than what they know will happen (Griffin, 2015). It is put into context within cultural norms, relationship factors, as well as personal characteristics. Violation valence is the interpretation of interaction being either positive or negative without regards of who is violating who (Griffin, 2015). We first try to recognize violation, and then figure out whether we like it. This interaction began as she got home from school on a Wednesday in our room. It seemed like Saffron and I had a free Thursday which allowed us to lounge and spend time with each other that Wednesday afternoon. The experiment I had on planning to do was to simply hug Saffron as she got home from school and hang around her side of the room that day. If this was any other regular day, my normative behavior would be in my bed either asleep or on my computer and obnoxiously saying “hello” as she walked into our room exhausted as she always is after class. My expectation of Saffron would be of her to obnoxiously greet me back and there would end our conversation for the next 15 minutes. This is where I would violate her personal space resulting a positive or negative reward. Saffron and I play as if we were brothers and would play fight.
