“A stone.”
“No. A shell.” (pg.15)
Ralph was the one who found the shell and not Piggy. Then when Piggy tries to explain Ralph the purpose and how to use it Ralph but since he found it he took custody of it. This is a major part in the novel because if he didn’t take it then he would not be chief and the group would not split. This is connected to a book called “Animal Farm” written by George Orwell. In the novel there are two major characters named Napoleon and snowball. The way it is connected is because Napoleon uses his convincing skills to show how great of a leader he is. Although like Napoleon, Ralph does not take credit for things …show more content…
“In front of them, only trees of four yards away, was a rock-like hump where no rock should be. Ralph could hear a tiny chattering noise coming from somewhere—perhaps his own mouth. He bound himself together with his will, fused his fear and loathing into a hatred, and stood up. He took two leaden steps forward.” (pg.123)
In this quote Ralph acts a lot like a hero. Ways he acted like a hero was that he knew that the rock was not there before and he can get hurt yet he still went to examine it. Also Ralph then changed his “terror and hate” into “hatred”. The reason of why I think Ralph had the bravery to face the “rock” was because he persuaded himself to believe that the “rock” was his rival (since he changed his terror to hatred). Also, by changing his emotion I thought that he was going to do something horrible because hatred makes people do horrible things.
4. “The tears began to flow and sobs shook him. He gave himself up to them now for the first time on the island; great, shuddering spasms of grief that seemed to wrench his whole body. His voice rose under the black smoke before the burning wreckage of the island; and infected by that emotion, the other little boys began to shake and sob too. And in the middle of them, with filthy body, matted hair, and unwiped nose, Ralph wept for the end of innocence, the darkness of man’s heart, and the fall through the air of the true, wise friend called Piggy.” …show more content…
I think the reason why he was weeping is the fact that he has lost all of his faith on everybody being innocent. Also after living on the island for such a long without any one older or a parent they became savages and the children have lost their innocence. They also have been exposed to the real world at such a young age where they shouldn’t be learning or seeing anything that they are. This is a lot like “The Outsider” which is written by S.E. Hinton. In the book a character named Johnny Cade told Ponyboy to “stay gold” which meant to stay innocent. Ponyboy also was exposed to the harsh world at very young, yet a reasonable age, therefore staying innocent wasn’t exactly the plan in mind.
5. Even the sounds of nightmare from the other shelters no longer reached him, for he was back to where came from, feeding the ponies with sugar over the garden wall. (pg.98)
When Ralph dreams, he mostly dreams of feeding ponies sugar. Then when he wakes up he hears the twin’s conversation about the beast. This is an example of how the littluns are losing their innocence. Ralph is older than the twins, but yet he still has peaceful dreams. The fact that the boys are talking about damaging stuff it shows how they too have lost their goodness. Also this is a lot like what happened to my friend who saw a lot of terrible things at a young age. This made her thing and do really bad
