BIOMEDICAL
The focus of the biomedical model is purely on individuals itself and relies heavily on clinical services and the education of health and wellbeing. Each individual is responsible to maintaining their own health and wellbeing as it is believed to be an objective biological state. However, the weaknesses include reliance on professional health workers and technology would be costly, eg. equipment, training of professionals. Also, they are taught to find a solution for their issues as they arise, which does not encourage people to live healthy lives. Hence, the focus is on the condition itself rather than the determinants that caused the issue.
On the other hand, the strengths of the social model is that it educates people so they don’t get diagnosed or ill. It is also less costly to prevent the disease before it happens. However, the disadvantages are that it is difficult to evaluate the effectiveness of this method of health as the outcomes are not visible until after a long period of time. Furthermore, some people might find it difficult to understand the message due to the inadequate level of education being provided for the entire population. Thus, it is a medical model applied by health care providers who strive to return the physical health of a person back to its standard level. Whereas, the social model of health is a community point of view to stop diseases and illnesses from arising first place. Not only is it less costly to prevent the disease from happening, it also places the health of the population at a strong healthful level and encourages them to lead productive and fruitful lives as it expands the economic growth of the country, which is the reason I prefer the social model over biomedical model of
