The teacher had good control over the classroom and was consistent in her discipline when children would misbehave. It was clear when I was observing that all of the children had a good grasp of the classroom rules. She would let the children choose where they wanted to go for “Choice Time”, but she would let them go one by one, and called on the children who were sitting quietly first. She also went around and monitored children at each section, and made sure they stayed out of the areas they were supposed to. For example, in the classroom there is a corner underneath a loft that has blankets and pillows. This is the “quiet area” and it is where children can go when they get upset. However, Luna decided that it would make a very good hiding spot for hide and seek. The teacher saw them and reprimanded them, telling then they aren’t allowed to be in the quiet area if they aren’t upset. The teacher would also read a small book to the class after choice time and before they went outside. The teacher would make sure to speak clearly, and show the picture all around the circle so all of the children could see. She would also ask questions that would help the children learn. For example, she was reading a rhyming book. She would read a rhyming pair and then ask the group if it rhymed or not, and ask them to come up with another word that rhymed. She asked if house and mouse rhymed, and Ginny raised her hand. Ginny answered that they didn’t, and the teacher explained how they did rhyme. This helped Ginny to learn that rhyming words sound the same, but they do not need to start with the same
