At looking at the colon, we can see it is a long muscular tube, about 4 feet long. Colon cancer affects our large intestine which is called the colon. The beginning stages of colon cancer start out as noncancerous, small bumps which are cells clumped together called adenomatous polyps (“Mayo Clinic,” 2015). Adenomatous polyps can turn into colon cancer. The symptoms of colon cancer can be seen after the cancer has already spread, so having screenings done could save one’s life. Symptoms are bloody stool, severe stomach pains or cramps, feeling an intense need to use the restroom and having no relief after doing so. My risk for this cancer, according to the Harvard School of Public Health website, is above average. My grandfather had colon cancer which increases my risk, and I am not taking a multivitamin or eating enough calcium, not on birth control, and not taking at least 325mg of aspirin which also increases my risk. Ovarian cancer is cancer of the ovaries which is a female reproduction organ that produces eggs and if fertilized, goes into the fallopian tubes and down into the uterus and develops into a fetus. Ovaries are the primary source of estrogen and progesterone, which are the female hormones. Ovarian cancer only affects women and is a silent killer. Ovarian cancer symptoms can only be seen and felt rather when it is in the late stages. According to the Harvard School of Public Health website, my chance of getting ovarian cancer is above average. My risk of getting this cancer, according to the Harvard School of Public Health website, is because my tubes are not tied, have not had a hysterectomy (removal of the uterus), I am not taking birth control, and have not had any children. However, having a healthy diet, having regular exercise, and taking the appropriate vitamins, will lessen my chances. After reading and studying about ovarian cancer, I will do my best to follow a healthy diet with vitamins, and exercise every
