Community-oriented policing is critical in serving the community in a well-balanced manner. This article has a direct correlation with my current course, Community Relations because chapter 10 on our required textbook; “CRIM 2300, Community Relations” discusses community-oriented policing.
Results: A massive amount of time and effort is required to implement community-oriented policing. Deploying a task force consisting of civilians and law enforcement officers from all ranks would be required to address any issues involving the program. They will also be responsible for implanting the program within the department as well as overseeing all review boards, recruitment, training, and deployment strategies. This will help create a respect and cooperation from the community during times when law enforcement needs it the most. Two of the primary strategies that find themselves directly correlated with community-oriented policing are as follows; 1) response to incidents, (known as R2I), and 2) problem-oriented policing. Each of these strategies rely on the other to help departments achieve their goals. Departments have implemented R2I to help in the response to crimes and/or emergency situations. Response time, as well as establishing control of the scene is highly regarded as the primary way of maintaining confidence from the community. With the creation of directed patrols and the targeting of high crime areas, law enforcement officers can respond to crime scenes quickly and efficiently.
