Midterm 1 Extra Credit Essay Organizations and companies ensure that they have best staff due to Human Resource Management. Therefore, this area primarily focuses on how to make and enable a company to look have the best employees by developing and motivating them. Human Resource Management is successful when the company is able to retain a large percentage of its employees. Nonetheless, Human Resource Management ensures that based on what they acquire and transfer from their employees will allow them to determine what the company may or may not be capable of doing. Thus, being able to manage employees is vital due to the importance they have for the failure or successes of the company overall. Job design in a company is vital because it determines the job tasks and responsibilities that employees in a particular job are expected to perform (Lepak & Gowan). In this case, the job design of a company helps ensure that the employees are fulfilling their tasks. If an employee does not perform what he or she has to, it will reflect on the performance of the company because one area of work, cannot be done without the other. Thus, their performance is an asset to how a company wishes to fulfill its objectives and goals, long-term and short-term. In job design, there are two approaches on how to go about managing their employees in the best way. The efficiency approach focuses on mass production and standard tasks within a company and its employees, while the motivational approach focuses on motivating an employee to want to work. For some companies, they will prefer the efficiency approach because it guarantees a mass production in efficiency by giving employees a specific task from a general one, to ensure that the tasks are being done in an appropriate and efficient manner called job specialization (Lepak & Gowan). In this approach, there is a job characteristic model that identifies five job dimensions and three psychological states that affect motivation and satisfaction within an employee (Lepak & Gowan). An employee’s experience in finding meaningfulness of work challenges their skills, identifying tasks and the significance of understanding what the job implies for them and the company. Next is the experience of responsibility for outcomes of the work, which allows employees’ freedom scheduling to work to perform their tasks and lastly, employees who are knowledgeable of their work are given feedback, which allows them to receive any information on their performance that may help them in the future. Thus, these psychological states help companies motivate their employees to be the best they can be for themselves as well, which can assist the competitiveness of the
