In Nazi Germany, Hitler believed in Lebensraum (living space). He wanted to take over as much territory in Europe as possible in order to provide more space for the aryan race to grow and prosper. In Fascist Japan, imperialism first started off as a way to gain natural resources but as soon as militarism, nationalism and racism was on the rise, the Japanese started to began thinking that they were doing these countries a favor by taking them over.
