Reading
The Reading Composite is a measure of Gianna’s overall reading skills, which are based on basic word reading, word decoding, and reading comprehension. Gianna’s performance in this composite was in the Below Average range (SS=89; PR=23). The Reading Composite consists of two subtests: Letter and Word Recognition and Reading Comprehension. On the Letter and Word Recognition subtest, Gianna had to pronounce letters and words of gradually increasing difficulty. These skills are more of a determinant …show more content…
Gianna’s overall performance on this composite was in the Below Average range (SS=88; PR=21). Two subtests comprise the Decoding Composite: Nonsense Word Decoding and Letter and Word Recognition. As mentioned previously, Gianna was asked to identify letters and pronounce words (Letter and Word Recognition). She performed within the Average range (Letter and Word Recognition: SS=90; PR=25). When Gianna was asked to read aloud nonsense terms (Nonsense Word Decoding), she performed within the Below Average range (Nonsense Word Decoding: SS=88; PR=21) …show more content…
Gianna’s overall performance on this composite was in the Below Average range (SS=83; PR=13). Three subtests comprise the Reading Fluency Composite: Silent Reading Fluency, Word Recognition Fluency, and Decoding Fluency. On the Silent Reading Fluency task, Gianna was required to silently read simple sentences and mark ‘yes’ or ‘no.’ For instance, Gianna might read the question ‘Is the ocean orange?’ and then mark ‘no.’ She was asked to complete as many items as possible within a two-minute time limit. Gianna performed within the Average range (Silent Reading Fluency: SS=92; PR=30).
Next, Gianna was asked to read isolated words aloud as quickly as possible during two 15-second trials (Word Recognition Fluency). She performed within the Below Average range (Word Recognition Fluency: SS=84; PR=14). Finally, Gianna was required to read isolated nonsense words aloud as quickly as possible during two 15-second trials (Decoding Fluency). She performed within the Below Average range (Decoding Fluency: SS=81; PR=10).
