In 1939 Adolf Hitler, a German politician, gained control in Germany to share his anti-Semitic ideas. Sophie Scholl, just like a lot of people “believed that Hitler would help Germany achieve greatness, fortune and prosperity”(Bartoletti 1). In author, Susan Campbell Bartoletti’s,“ Hitler Youth: Growing up in Hitler’s Shadow”, it mentions the ways Adolf Hitler was using education to spread the ways of Nazi ideals. To spread anti-Semitism, Hitler expected the following; teachers were to teach Nazi ideals otherwise they had to suffer consequences, students were expected to join Hitler Youth, and there was a standardized school curriculum.

The Nazi Party pressured teachers to be 100% committed with Hitler Youth. In fact, some teachers quit teaching rather than join the Nazis, but “those who refused to quit were dealt with harshly”(Bartoletti 15)
Another one of the conjectures included students having to join Hitler Youth. As teachers were pressured into being 100% committed with Hitler Youth, “in turn, pressured students to join” (Bartoletti 15). Hitler Youth was the youth organization on the Nazi Party in Germany. The youth were dressed in full uniforms, and had enjoyed the power they had over teachers and other authority figures. Students were to show their loyalty to Hitler and Germany, by saluting the Nazi flag and saying “Heil Hitler” every morning(Bartoletti 11).
Lastly, one of the major things Hitler had done to spread Nazi ideals was he created a standardized school curriculum. He got rid of all the old textbooks and replaced them with new ones, which he had approved of containing Nazi approved ideas. As Bartoletti stated, “They rewrote the curriculum from top to bottom, so that it only taught Nazi approved ideas"(Bartoletti 10).
