Leif Erikson was born in Iceland late in the 10th century, grew up in Greenland and he’s a famous explorer. He is the first European to land on the Americas. He led a crew of 35 men on a journey to America at around the year 1000. Historically important due to the fact that it was he who got to the Americas first, he discovered it.

He wanted to establish his own sea route and propose that a person could reach Asia by sailing west from Europe since he believed in the round/small earth theory and asked spain to fund his trip where he left spain with Santa Maria, Pinta and Nińa in 1492. In mainstream media, when one would refer to “America” or “North America” they would refer to it as a whole- but, within this area are a bunch of sub-groups; “colonies”. Even though they were mainly British colonies, they had a lot of similarities but there are also great differences within them.
Southern colonies consisted of Virginia (1606), north (1663) & south Carolina (1713) , Georgia (1732) & Mary land which came last. Virginia’s main source was tabacco, North & South Carolina were rice, tobacco and cotton, Georgia was tabacco, rice, cotton & canes. They had fertile soil, forests, long rivers, swamps- the warmet climate. Consisted of Spanish, French and English. We’re predominantly catholic and had a lot of royalty, which is very similar to New England colonies.
Middle Colonies consisted of Pennsylvania (1680), new jersey, new York (1667), Delaware. They were the breadbasket colonies and had religious freedom- meaning they were free to have any religion and would not be condemned for it (unlike new England colonies and southern colonies). The people who resided in it were German, dutch, Swiss, English and French. The climate had a lot of coasts, hills & mountains- was very rainy, had warm summers and cold winters.
