E. MacAllister’s father ran the company in a way that was characteristic of the time. According to Mr. MacAllister, one highlight from this time would be the fact that organizational commitment during his father’s watch was incredibly high and that his father rarely had to fire employees or hire new employees to refill positions. MacAllister offered great insight into the fact that an organization’s success can be based upon three broad items. Item one, an organization must make sure that their customers are satisfied. A company cannot function without these customers. Item two, employees can play a massive role in the success of an organization and the satisfaction of customers. Like customers, companies would be non-existent without their workforce. The last item on P.E. MacAllister’s list of the three keys to success is making sure that employees are selling a top-notch product, and that customers are receiving this product well. Many companies focus solely on making sure their products are great and customers are satisfied while ignoring those within the organization. The MacAllisters decided to be different and focus on all three of these aspects. What should be no surprise to those reading Colquitt, LePine, and Wesson’s (2014) book, Mr. MacAllister and his company have benefited greatly from this broader focus and have set an example for those in the industry.
