This stage is where the character or person is able to have food and has a place to stay and the person also takes good care of their body. At this stage, Chris’ health isn’t very good in view of, the job he’s trying to get he doesn’t drink that much water. He doesn’t want to drink much water due to wasting time in the bathroom. With food and shelter, Chris and his son’s shelter isn’t very good, considering that Chris isn’t able to pay his rent and he got kicked out of his apartment and motel room. This level is where those related to interaction with others, that may include family, friends, belonging to a group, and giving and receiving love. In this situation, Chris kind of has a family, there’s his son Christopher and girlfriend Linda. Yet his relationship with Linda is very healthy due to a lot of arguing and Chris wasn’t able to stay caught up on stuff. This lead to Linda leaving, finding a new job in New York. Chris also has a friend Wayne and he helps him find a place to stay. Chris also fights to keep his son and socializes in his job. The next level for Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs is Esteem.
The External commitment is self-confidence and the Internal commitment is self-esteem. This level is where there’s self respect and achievement, also social status and recognition. This is where Chris learns to do his job better than everyone else considering that her doesn’t have to but he wants to do really good. He always feels like he is able to make himself do better, like his internship and taking good care of his son.
