• There is political instability in the Middle East. People are moving to the United Arab Emirates as it is a safe haven for them. There is a noticeable increase in the population
The expected rise in the population of the United Arab Emirates combined with health indicator trends related to maternity amongst the young population, high mortality rates from life-style related diseases and cancer confirm that increased capacity in the UAE’s healthcare sector is required. There is risk that Mediclinic Middle East might not be able to meet the demand for healthcare. Mediclinic only has 2 hospitals currently in the Middle East. They have a 10% share of the entire sector and only 25% of the private sector, (Mediclinic, 2014).
United Arab Emirates is also faced with a shortage of specific doctors, midwifes, nurses and senior management positions. There is a risk that Mediclinic will not be able to cope with the increased demand for healthcare.
