During the middle adulthood stage, the body may start to look older. Some of the most obvious changes may be the appearance of wrinkles, sagging skin, age spots, thinner and greyer hair, the nails may become thick and brittle, and teeth may start to turn yellow (Santrock, 2014). Another change that may occur during this time is the loss of height, but the gaining of weight. According to Santrock (2014), exercising can reduce the risk of excessive weight gain and the associated risks. Physical changes are not limited to those that meet the eye. Some of them occur inside the body. Santrock (2014) also states that the cushion used in bone movement can start to deteriorate, causing stiff joints. Another thing that can occur for some are cardiovascular problems. She also stated she tries to teach them about both of their cultures, as they are African American and Caucasian. These are all examples of generativity. She portrays biological generativity simply by having children, she passed down her genes. Parental generativity is shown through them being smart and loving children. It proves that she teaches or “parents” them in a way that they can learn both knowledge, and compassion. By teaching them about the cultures from which they are derived, she is displaying cultural generativity. The fourth part of a person’s life that they tend to want to leave their mark on is their work. By working at the department of children and family services, she was able to impact many people’s lives in a positive way. She was definitely able to pass down her legacy in a way many will remember. This is also a time in life when people start to look back on things they have accomplished in their lives. Through a series of questions, I was able to find out that the person interviewed acknowledges that her life is different now than it used to be, but not necessarily worse. She now stays home with her children and has more responsibilities than she used to, but is ok with them because she loves her children. She says she has reached all of her career goals, but would love to be able to go back to work and will eventually. This is an example of someone who is thinking of
