Here is some of the information about the latest update of this system in which the U.S Navy awarded the Appian Corporation a contract to include additional scaling of NKO, on-going support, maintenance, additional hardware, beta-testing of an at-sea version of the portal, and to upgrade the system to Appian Enterprise v.3.0, the latest version of their award-winning internet solution suite (Business Wire, 2003). Both the server-side hardware and software has been covered next will be the client-side hardware and software will be covered.
Client-Side Hardware Requirements The client-side hardware requirements for this information system are very simply and at the basic level user will only really need a computer, Internet, and a CAC reader. The computer will also need a modem to access the Internet and a Central Processing Unit (CPU), memory, keyboard, and mouse. This system can be accessed with any device that will allow for a CAC reader to be used. The CAC reader is for security of not only the information system but also, the users private information that is located throughout this system.

Navy and does not have a traditional rival to stay ahead of. But, they do need to maintain an advantage when compared to foreign militaries. I have worked with many foreign militaries over 22 years and I have not seen any system that even remotely comes close to this system with the dedication of their personnel to complete training and manage there careers like NKO has done. This system can take on a competitive advantage with each user that utilizes the system. For example when the Navy only promotes a certain number of personnel each year there are courses that can be completed through NKO that can be a determining factor in advancing over another that did not complete any courses. Finally, looking at the bigger picture if NKO if it does not maintain a high relevance and usefulness then the Navy could possible go to a different system so, in essence, itself is its biggest competitor. Now that the competitive analysis of this system is completed, the recommendations for improving the system will be
