3.0 INTRODUCTION/IDENTIFICATION OF CONCEPT
COMMUNICATION: The tool that allows us to share our opinions, thoughts and feelings with others. Communication could be verbal using a spoken language, it could be written as text on paper or SMS, or it could be through body language and eye contact. The purpose of communication is essentially for sharing of opinions and thoughts. It is the process of changing information between entities, the exchange and flow of information and ideas from one person to another. Communication plays a pivotal role in healthcare industry meeting the specific needs of each client. It forms the bed rock for adequate and proper healthcare delivery. Being able to communicate with a patient is vital for obtaining an accurate and comprehensive patient and family assessment, formulating and implementing a treatment plan, determining the effectiveness of nursing care, and evaluating outcomes of care. Therefore is important that all health professionals who are participating in the care of a patient communicate effectively at every given time because fatal mistake are being made because of lack of adequate communication. Nursing practice makes use of constant communication between the nurse and patient, the patient’s family, the nurse’s colleagues, supervisors etc. Nurse –patient interaction is a key factor in knowing what the patient needs and how to care for him or her and communication it a tool for building patient nurse relationship. Breakdown in communication should be avoided since is can cause very serious negative outcomes. As a nurse I make sure thorough patient report to the oncoming nurse at shift change is properly articulated because a situation where this does not exist and important information is not conveyed, treatment, medication etc. may be missed and this will not be to the interest of the …show more content…
Communication is highly necessary for our society, as it is only through the exchange of ideas and co-operation that a society and develop. Communication is needed for transfer of idea. It is only through communication that a society can pass information from one generation to another. Individuals are able to transfer unique ideas in their minds from themselves to other which can be implemented into real life. Hence ideas should be communicated as a plan, drawing or description so that it could be further created. It is required for interacting with the society. It is very essential that we interact with our environment and surrounding and people living in environment. Healthy communication is important for a healthy society. It need for education of the society. Effective communication can enable transfer of knowledge while inefficient communication can lead to ambiguous knowledge. It is required to update oneself. It is only through proper communication channel that one can be abreast current affairs and important events across the globe. It is also required for entertainment and to understand the world we live
