The Norse people believe that there are two types of gods. There were the Æsir and the Vanir. The Æsir believed the gods created war, power and death. The Vanir are responsible for the fertility. ("Norse Mythology.")

It was believed the Vikings came mainly from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Faroe Island, and Greenland. (“Norse Mythology”) Nobody is certain how many followers there were. Since there was no records back then. There could have been thousands, hundreds of thousands from the time of 700 A.D. - 1100 A.D. (BBC NEWS) No one even knows for sure when this Norse religion began evidence of it can be traced back to the second century A.D.

After tedious searching I found a poem that can be considered a bible. The Hávamál, meaning The Words of the High, are the words of Odin. The only copy of this poem is in manuscript form.(“Virtually Virtual Iceland”) The Poetic Edda, known as Elder Edda, is a collection of poems. That would have been used to teach children and to entertain. The word Edda means “Great Grandmother” referring to ancestors.
