I was raised in a rural area of Bangladesh and witnessed a lot of avoidable premature deaths and sufferings from diseases among people in my area. I became interested in public health as I wanted to do something for them. I preferred public health instead of clinical medicine, as in clinical medicine, a doctor could only treat an individual patient while in public health, a researcher could serve a large number of people with his findings. My practical research experience started with the Residential Field Site Training (RFST) during my fourth year in medical school. I also worked in the community as a volunteer of several students’ organizations.
After completion of my internship training and some higher training in medicine, I joined a large research team, namely Project for Advancing Health of Newborns and Mothers (ProjAHNMo). My present and previous research works are intended to know the cause, pattern, and the simplest way to prevent or treat maternal and childhood diseases. I was fortunate to work with Drs. Abdullah Baqui and Azadeh Farzin during my time at ProjAHNMo-JHU. Their sincerity, hardworking ability, knowledgeableness, and astuteness have inspired
