Year-Round Schooling Imagine not getting the chance to experience the thrilling joys of summertime. Year-round schooling presents a very controversial issue that school districts struggle with every year. Some people believe there are certain benefits to making this plan go into effect, although, others do not feel the same. Several experts have conducted tests and collected research on this topic but in some cases, the results seem to conclude two completely different outcomes. When one test is done to prove year round schooling is beneficial, another is completed that proves to be the opposite. Which is the truth? Year-round schooling requires a very expensive agenda, but there are some ways that can save money to ease up on the budget. For example, while one set of students in the school will be on break, another group will be in school. This is called multi-track system. This is another way to save money when using year-round schooling. Since there will always be students moving in and out of the school periodically, it reduces the need for addition for construction. Although, major construction modifications are difficult to add onto the school if the classrooms are empty for only a short amount of time. Here is an example of how year-round schooling is cheap. “According to a four-year study by the Oxnard School District, ‘when the year-round schools were loaded at 120 percent of their traditional-year capacity, the per-pupil cost averaged 5.5 percent less than operating the same school on a traditional calendar’ (Sadowski,1993)” (Wildman et al. p 465). Another thing families like about the year round schooling program is how they can plan vacations cheaper when it is not during the summer. Although there are some advantages to the cost of year round schooling, there are many more
