According to Jarvis (Jarvis, 2016) the order that the physical inspection must be completed in is: Inspection, Palpation, Percussion, and Auscultation. Understanding that Sickle Cell (2016, September 12) is a not a latent disease is the first step in assessing this patient. Armed with the knowledge that this patient has suffered with this malady since his birth, there should be distinguishable chronic conditions.
Documentation in the EHR will be a direct reflection of my assessment and my clinical findings. I would offer phone numbers and websites for J.P to use as an outreach. Professionally, I would sit down with my client and ask him, “What struggles does he face daily about his place in this world,” and listen. This open line of communication (Jarvis, 2016) would hopefully breach the wall protecting his feelings.
