The first goal of fitness education is to get the students to experience what vigorous activity feels like. (Hinson, 1995) The idea behind this is to teach the kids how it feels when they push their bodies to the limit, and engage in maximal exercise. By showing them how this feels, they can then understand what their bodies are capable of and where they need to be. The second goal is creating self-responsibility. (Hinson, 1995) Self-responsibility is simple in its relation to fitness, because it is the responsibility of the person, and that person alone to be active. Children need to learn that being active and engaging in regular exercise is their responsibility, and it is a choice. The crucial step in becoming someone who is habitually active is the realization that one’s level of fitness is based on what they put into becoming fit. Finally the third goal to incorporate when implementing or creating a fitness education plan is giving children an idea of what a healthy lifestyle is about. It is important to let the students know that a lifestyle is a matter of making decisions that have a positive influence on their lives. By the time the students get into high school, especially in grades eleven and twelve have developed a sense of their own level of fitness and self-responsibility regarding their level of physical activity. The only downside to this is that some children, if they haven’t had a good experience with physical activity or even physical education class, they have a negative connotation towards exercise. This is clearly seen in the drastic increase in obesity rates. According to the CDC, “no state had a prevalence of obesity less than 20%.” (CDC, "Overweight and Obesity", 2014) These students are about to become adults and it is important to stress the benefits that being healthy and fit has.
