Most types of shamanism are centered around nature and different spirits. Shamans take a little different role, depending upon which culture in which you find them. Most shamans are healers, many are mediators, but all are connected to the spirit world. In some cultures, the shaman takes up a role as teacher of legends and culture, especially bans. The easiest way to understand the role of a shaman is as an organizer who works through the kingdom of spirit and of the soul. Some connect with spirits, they, some travel into the spirit world and work in non-physical realities, own some and some help others to have these experiences for themselves. It is an example where the individual’s experience is key to personal and spiritual growth, where vision and self-understand takes the place of a holy manuscript and the shaman helps facilitate these journeys into the kingdoms of the soul and the deeper self. The Shaman is believed to heal someone with the help of a few materials and the beliefs of spirits. They may also use icons in order to help heal you. A Shaman travels to the dream world or world of spirits to interfere with any negative forces which a sick person may have attracted. All physical illness starts in the world of spirit, or at the energetic level, and a shaman has the training which allows him/her to intervene on the patient’s behalf.
