This includes identifying values, experience, knowledge, skills, strengths and limitations. To begin, three values of mine which are highly important are that I am very caring and compassionate and I strive to provide excellent care. Through my experience at clinical placements, work and volunteering, I have developed vast knowledge and an array of skills which equip me with the capability to perform well as a paediatric nurse. For instance, I possess the knowledge when providing care that is client and family centred. This was demonstrated when working as a special needs tutor for the ages 6-18. Even though tutoring is a different profession than nursing, I believe they share similar characteristics such as they both require providing a service and teaching. During this role, I was able to meet the needs of both the client and the family by focusing on the areas of concerns that families have in their child’s learning development and then creating a teaching plan that works for the client. As well, I also possess the knowledge to assess the needs of children and their families. This was demonstrated when working as a nursing student at The George Hull Centre. During my placement, I would interact with caregivers and children ages 0-6. During these encounter, I would build professional relationships with both the caregiver and child, which allowed me to build trust to determine whether there were any health concerns within the family. If I discovered any health issues, I would provide the necessary resources which would target this problem. Three important skills of mine which are essential to working as a paediatric nurse is that I am a critical thinker, a continuous learner and an excellent problem solver. However, a limitation of mine is that I have not had any previous acute paediatric or postpartum nursing
