King’s Conceptual System Imogene King’s conceptual system theory involving goals focuses on the patient to client interaction during the care relationship. The nurse’s primary function is to establish, maintain and achieve health to the patient under their immediate actions. The nurse is successful on regaining the patients’ health by following a framework and guideline of assessing the patient, interacting with the patient and by setting goals that involves the patient within a social group. In 1986, learning was added in the concept group; however in 1995 King did not define learning or explain in much detail. That goes for coping as well. King discussed coping in 1992, and stated it was related to stress and or stressors, but did not go into any more detail revolving this concept (George, 2011).
The Interpersonal System The interpersonal system is described as the form of human interaction between at least two people. Its stated that two people interacting is defined as a dyad, three people interacting within a group is called a triad, while four or more people interacting is considered either a small or a large group (George, 2011). The degree of interaction is determined on the amount of people within the group. The intra parts of the intrapersonal system are interaction, communication, transaction and role (George, 2011). Interaction is defined by many values involving communication, and interactions (George, 2011).
Social System Last of the three structural systems is the social system. This system is constructed of large groups that consist of; roles, behaviors, and practices that play a crucial role in sustaining, and maintaining the desirable practices and rules among the system (George, 2011).
