The Antecedent or Discriminative Stimulus Behaviour or Response Consequence or Reinforcer (ABC) chart is used to observe, record valuable information about why the behaviour is happening, the function of the behaviour. Sara’s moan happened right after the class grow quiet and turn to listen to her answer. All the attention is on Sara, as a result, the teacher comes closer to her. At that point, the possible function seems to be sensory/ attention. What follows, it is because her teacher came closer, it cause Sara to hit her desk with her fist 3 times. The teacher places a hand on her shoulder and says, “Sara, please answer the question, I know you can”. Her possible behaviour function seems to be tangible, her attempt to remove the anxiety that the teacher’s question and behaviour is causing her.
