Compare and contrast areas of CNS gray matter and white matter |
The CNS has two kinds of tissue. Gray matter contains CELL BODIES, dendrites, and axon terminals of neurons as well as all nerve synapses. White matter is composed of AXONS connecting different parts of gray matter to each other. Cortex= gray matter on the outside Nuclei= gray matter on the inside |

Gray or white matter in the Cerebrum? |
The cerebrum consists of the cerebral cortex which is gray matter on the outside of the cerebrum. |
Gray or white matter in the Cerebral Medulla? |
The cerebral medulla is white matter between the cortex and the nuclei. |
Gray or white matter in the Brainstem? |
The brainstem consists of 3 parts: The Medulla oblongata is gray matter is organized into nuclei (cell bodies) The Pons is mostly white matter and The Midbrain. |
Gray or white matter in the spinal cord? |
