Neutralisations |
Acids + alkali = Salt + Water |
Titrations use this to work out the concentration of acidic or alkali solutions |
Making standard solutions- step one |
First work out how many moles of the known reactant you need. Example: sodium hydroxide . Using formula : moles= concentration x volume. |
Standard solution: step 2 |
Once you know how many moles you need. Work out how many grams you need. Mass = moles x Mr |
Standard solution- step 3 |
Use a weighing boat or bottle and weigh out required mass of solid (approx). |
Remember to 'tear' the weight so scale is at 0 when the bottle is present on the scale. |
Standard solution -step 5 |
Add the solid to a beaker and add distilled water to it. Use distilled water to wash out the weighing bottle into the beaker so no solid remains. |
