Gideon v Wainwright |
Gideon Was arrested. He was searched and seized and was not appointed a lawyer when he asked for one. This is the case that made it standard for people to be appointed lawyers when they cannot afford one. They use the 4th 5th and 14th amendment to create the poppers petition |

This is the case that made Earl Warren mandate the police to inform arrested people of their rights. When arrested people were not informed of their rights they were set free. |

Court case that led to the creation of the Miranda rights. The rights were essentially given to us by the escobedo case but was made mandatory by the Miranda case. |

Roe v Wade |
The court case that made it legal for women to have an abortion if they choose. The 1st trimester the woman has free choice. The 2nd trimester the woman must be under medical care and have medical reasoning for the abortion. The last 3 months there had to be a threat to the mother's life. |

The case that began discussing criteria for capital punishment. Burger was fleeing a house and tripped and accidentally shot and occupant. |

Gregg v Georgia |
Case the tried to state that capital punishment violated the 8th amendment cruel and unusual punishment. Argued that the rest of the developed world considers capital punishment barbaric. Supreme court disagreed, still have the death penalty |

Bowers v Hardwick |
A case where an officer sought to homosexuals sodomizing and they were arrested because it was against the law in Georgia. They argued that it was constitutional because they had the right to privacy, Supreme Court disagreed and Upheld state statute. If there is a law against sodomy in Your state you can not engage in that behavior |

Similar situation To Bowers versus Hardwick. To homosexuals were caught having sex in were arrested in Texas. They also argue that they had a right to privacy, Supreme Court overturned Bowers versus Hardwick |

Created separate but equal. Allowed for segregation between races. Essentially reversed the civil rights amendments. |

Case that reverse separate but equal. Very different conditions between black-and-white schools led to the Spring court's decision. This case overturned plessy versus Ferguson. |
