20 Cards in this Set
- Front
- Back
Nucleus |
Contains the Cell's genetic material and directs cell activities
Chromatin |
Organized DNA which condenses to form two chromosomes
Nuclear Membrane (envelope)
Two separate Membranes with nuclear pores
Nucleolus (nucleoli)
Dark staining spherical bodies within nucleus
Plasma Membrane
Seperates Cell from environment; Supports Cell contents; Regulates what enters and exits the cell; Plays a role in communication between Cells.
Cytoplasm
material between the cell membrane and the nucleus
Organelles (What are they)
Small structures w/i cytosol. specialize subcellular structures w/ specific functions.
Organelles (consist of)
ribosomes, endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, lysosomes, peroxisomes, mitochondria, cytoskeletal elements, and centrioles
Ribosomes
Composed of RNA and Protein; are site of protein synthesis.
Rough Endoplasmic Recticulum
Produces proteins that are secreted from the cell. Transports cellular substances (primarily proteins) around the cell. Involved in Phospholipid and cholesterol synthesis.
Smooth Endoplasmic Recticulum |
Major Site of lipid and carbohydrate synthesis
Golgi Apparatus |
Closely Packed Membranous Sacs which Collect, Package, and Distribute proteins and Lipids.
Mitochondria
Produces ATP via aerobic cellular respiration
Centrioles
cylindrical organelles located in the centrosome. Direct formation of mitotic spindle during cell division. Form bases of cilia and flagella.
Interpahse
DNA and Organelles replicate (except nucleus) NOT part of mitosis. The time between cell division.
Prophase
Chromatin condenses into chromosomes, centrioles move toward the end of the cell. Nucleus and Nuclear envelope dissapear. Spindle Fibers Appear.
Metaphase
Chromosomes align in center, Spindle Fibers attach
Anaphase
Chromosomes separate and work towards opposite ends near centrioles.
Telophase
Migration of chromosomes complete. Chromosomes unravel back into chromatin; nuclear envelope forms.
Cytokinesis
Cell "cutting" cell separate into two individual cells.
