What type of wave are sound waves?? |
Longitudinal |
How is sound produced |
Vibration of particles in a medium |
What is rarefraction |
Where the medium is stretched apart together |
What is compression |
Where the medium is squashed together |
Echos are an example of sound waves being what? |
Reflected |
What are the four things that can happen to s sound wave |
Echoed Absorbed Transmitted Refracted |
What are the two types of seismic waves? |
P-waves ( primary) these are longitudinal. They travel at different speeds between solid and liquid S-waves ( secondary) These are transverse. They can only travel through solids not liquids. |
How do scientists use seismic waves |
1. Seismic waves can't travel through the entire earth because it is made of different parts. 2.scientists have used that idea to work out the different material the earth is made of. 3.by detecting seismic waves scientists have discovered the earth had a solid core surrounded by a liquid outer core. 4. A Mantle of changing density surrounds the earth core . This mantle causes refraction of seismic waves |
Which is faster thr speed of light or the speed of sound? |
Light |
