frequency distribution
a table that displays the frequency of various outcomes in a sample. Each entry int he table contains the frquency or count of the occurences of values within a partiouclar group or interval, and thus this table sumamrizes the distribution of values in the sample.
percentage distribution
a display of data that specifies the percentage of observations that exist for each data point or grouping of data points. This is a good way of expressing the relative frequency of survey responses and other data
percentile
each of the 100 groups nto which a populartion can be divided according to the distribution og values of a particular variable-- each of the 99 intermediate values of a random variable that devide the frequency distribution into 100 groups
quartile
a type of quanile. Q1: middle number between the min and the median / Q2: the median / Q3: the middle value between the median and the max
interquartile range
the IQR is a measure of variability, based on dividng a data set into quartiles--> equal parts (Q1-Q3)
outlier
a sata point that stands out from the rest--either much smaller or much bigger thna the nearest data point
mode
the value that occurs most frequently in a set of data
median
a measure of cnetral tendency-- the middle value (or avreage of two middle values if data set is even numbered)
mean (formula and verbal description)
the sum of values in a sample divided by the number of values; the average
five number summary

The min, Q1, median, Q3, and max--> boxplot is a visual display of this
