Define Safety Limits |
Limits upon important process variables that are found necessary to reasonable protect the integrity of certain physical barriers that guard against uncontrolled release of radioactivity. |
Limited Safety System Settings (LSSS) |
Settings for automatic protective devices related to those variables having significant safety functions.
-Scram Settings, (0.55W + 67%) -IRM Range 9 or lower <12%, Range 10 <38.4%. -High Pressure 1080 psi -Low Level 53" -Low-Low Level 5" -MSIV Closure 850# with mode in Run or S/U and IRM Range 10. -MSIV Closure 10% of closure from full open. -Generator load reject > 45% (833 MWth) -TSV Closure >45% -Safety Valve Setpoints: (3) 1218, (2) 1227, (2) 1236, (1) 1245, (1) 1254

Limiting Condition of Operation (LCO) |
The lowest functional capability or performance levels of equipment required for safe operation of the facility. |
Cold Shutdown (Mode) |
Mode switch in SHUTDOWNor REFUEL (or STARTUP for SDM testing), no core alterations in progress, andcoolant temperature < 212⁰F |
Hot Shutdown (Mode) |
Mode switch in SHUTDOWN (or REFUEL for pressuretesting, scram timing, or scram recovery), no core alterations in progress, andcoolant temperature > 212⁰F |
Refueling (Mode) |
Mode switch in REFUEL,coolant temp < 212⁰F, no more than one control rod withdrawn |
Power Operating (Mode) |
Mode switch in STARTUP or RUN, Reactor is critical or may become critical due to control rod withdrawal. |
Major Maintenance |
No fuel in the Reactor |
Core Alteration |
Addition, removal, or relocation of fuel or controls (rods) in the Reactor. Control rodmovement with the CRD system is NOTconsidered to be a core alteration. |
Identified Leakage |
Leakage into closed systems that are captured, flow metered, and conducted to a sump or collecting tank OR leakage into the primary containment atmosphere from sources that are both specifically located and known NOT to be from a through-wall crack in the piping within the reactor coolant pressure boundary |
Unidentified Leakage |
Anything other that Identifiedleakage |
Safety Limits |
-Reactor Pressure > 700# and Core Flow > 10%, MCPR < SLCPR is a violation. -Reactor Pressure < 700# or Core Flow < 10%, Reactor Power Shall Not Exceed 25%. -Neutron Flux shall not exceed its cram setting for >1.5 seconds. |
If a safety limit is exceeded.... |
Shutdown the reactor, make 1 hour NRC notification per 10CFR50.72, submit LER to NRC within 30 days per10CFR50.73, and NRC permission is required to resume operations (startup). |
