How was the Salem tragedy “developed from a paradox” (Act one)? |
The Puritans has every intention of keeping their community close and well-taken care of as a whole. They believed they were weeding out evil. The fact was that they were killing each other and causing more evil in the world. In trying to suppress the devil, they only created more evil and hatred. |
|
Explain why Abigail hates Goody Proctor? |
Abigail had an affair with John and still lusts after him. She hates Elizabeth because Elizabeth stuck by John and is still married to him. Abigail wants Elizabeth out of her way, and Elizabeth isn’t going anywhere. |
|
Explain the circumstances under which Tituba confessed and accuses the others. Why does she do this? What do you think of her actions? Explain. |
Tituba confesses after the men threaten her. They tell her that they will beat her if she doesn’t. She is afraid, so she takes what she thinks will be the less hurtful way out. I think Tituba should have told the truth to begin with, to prevent the men from even thinking about having to threaten her. |
