The Hajj was seen as an important pilgrimage and religious practice that helped people build upon their skills. The Hajj was one of the Five Pillars which were obligated practices used in the Islamic faith. In order to do the Hajj, you would have to travel to Mecca, the most holy city of the Muslims. Realistically not everyone lived in Mecca, Muslims were all around the world during the early time such as Africa and spread throughout Europe. In order to travel to Mecca, you would need to travel by sea as planes weren’t invented back then, meaning you would need some skill of navigation of seas. Lastly, because of the Hajj missionaries were able to spread the word of Allah and hopes to influence people to convert.

Instead they had vehicles which can ride the waves. If you were Islam it was essential you were a traveler and knew basic navigation. To start off not every Islam lived in Mecca. Muslim spread throughout the continents in hopes of bring in new conversions into their faiths. Many people lived across the seas from Mecca and they would need to know how to sail. So without navigation there was no way of doing the Hajj. If you were really Islamic you needed to complete these tasks. So people learned to navigate in the seas. Also because of this Hajj new technology were made to make lives easier. They invented different model boats for a larger group of people to sail in and boats to quickly ride along the waves. People who didn’t need to cross the seas still needed to travel the lands. There’s only so much direction you can ask from people. People needed to look at stars and their compasses to see if they were on the path to Mecca. Inventors thought of new ways to see if navigation could be easy but in the meantime people just built upon these skills at a young
