Adnan Syed Persuasive Essay

Improved Essays
While listening to the Serial Podcasts I heard many different people voicing their opinion on whether Adnan Syed is guilty or innocent. My opinion is that he is an innocent person who was wrongly prosecuted. The whole case is built on a timeline that has many flaws, and they call it a crime of passion or crime of pride. However, they have no evidence of how Adnan might have felt. In addition, they have no physical evidence to pin on Adnan. I think this case was poor executed, and they just arrested Adnan to have a person in custody for the crime. The first thing that swayed my mind to think of Adnan as an innocent person was the fact there was no physical evidence. How can you convict a person if you have absolutely no physical evidence what so ever? Sarah Koenig accepted the help from Deirdre Enright and her two team members. She gave Deirdre the case file, and Deirdre had two team members look the …show more content…
The call logs is what built the prosecutors case against Adnan Syed, and the timeline of that day added to their case. Some of the calls do not line up with the towers and timeline they have. Also, Jay’s interviews are a little different each time, but Jim Trainum said to disregard the little inconsistencies. However, Jay’s first interview has a big difference from the second interview. In his first interview he said he knew that day, January 13, Adnan was going to or did kill Hae Min Lee. On the other hand, in his second interview Jay said he knew at least four days before Hae’s body turned up; Adnan was going to kill Hae. In addition Jay mentions Patapsco Park in his interview with the police, but he never says anything about it during the trial because it messes with the timeline the prosecution has. Another thing they didn’t mention in court was Asia McClain’s alibi for Adnan that day. Had they questioned her further, and brought her up in court, things could have gone differently once again for

There is no physical evidence that Adnan committed the murder, just assumptions and theories that led to his imprisonment. Jay, Adnan’s best friends boyfriend, tells the cops that Adnan had let him know that he was going to kill Hae. He also states that Adnan gives him his car and cellphone but who does this with someone you don't really know. There is no true evidence here. Jay even lets the cops know he helped bury Hae’s body.…

The many events in the revealing of the truth were both significant in some cases and in other, more proof that Jay was with Adnan the day of the murder like he says. Kernel events that Jay explains that help give authenticity to his testimony is the where about of Hae Lee’s car. Jay showed the detectives where she parked therefore making his statement more reliable. Another kernel event was Jays timeline of the day Hae was murder in comparison to the cell phone towers that logged where Adnan’s cellphone was located at during what time. Another event that Jay said took place was that they went to the mall after Adnan disposed of the body and Jenn met them there to pick Jay up, this is a satellite event because if Adnan had never murdered Hae in the first place who knows if they would have been there together, but Jenn is…

His heroic testimony against his good friend is the main reason the state was able to correctly convict Adnan. In his sworn statement, Jay affirms Adnan killed Hae and that he saw her dead body. He tells investigators, “all [he could] see [was that] Hae’s lips [were] all blue, and she [was] pretzeled up in the back of the trunk. And she [was] dead.” This descriptive account of Jay’s first interaction with the deceased corps is very clear evidence that he was a witness to this disgusting act.…

But contrary to that, he should not have been able to tell that he was high if he could remember that but not the call. Adnan comes right out and tells us “I do remember being high at the time because the craziest thing is to be high and have the police call your phone. I will never forget that.” (Koenig, “The Case Against Adnan Syed”). Being able to remember this detail but not being able to recall anything us from the day can lead us to believe that he killed Hae on this day and he is trying to cover up for it by…

    Why Adnan Syed Is Innocent

The second reason I think Adnan must be innocent is because there are too many inconsistencies that Jay provides during his testimony while being interviewed by the police. Jay provides many stories, which sometimes do not match up to Adnan’s story or to the stories he provides. There were many inconsistencies that did not make sense, of which I will share the 3 that I found most important, which you can find in episode 4 called “Inconsistencies". The…

“A few days after Donald Trump suggested that there are no Muslim sports heroes, actual Muslim sports hero Muhammad Ali, heralded as one of the best boxers of all time, condemned the republican presidential candidates recent call to ban Muslims from entering the US.” This quote from the article above directly supports my view. Trump tried to back himself and reason that there aren’t even any muslim sport heroes and right after he is caught lying. Whether or not he lied on purpose, the fact is that he is so disconnected on how Muslims are just like everyone else, not terrorists as he always describes him.…

Judicial murder made by inequity legal system In the month after “Making a Murderer” premiered on Netflix, more than 129,000 Americans signed a petition to pardon Avery and Dassey for their convictions to the murder of Halbach and in the book ‘in cold blood’ written by Truman Capote, the two murderers were treated by ignoring the mental problem influence of theirs, they stayed in prison for five years and were finally performed death penalty. After reading the book and watching the TV show, I think these crimes sufficiently prove that there is a fundamental inequity at work in countless branches of legal system. Making a Murderer tells a story about the life of Steven Avery, who was convicted of rape in 1985 and imprisoned for 18 years, despite…

Even with all of this in mind, the court sees him as the main suspect and is not dissuaded by his normal persona. They pin him as Hae Min Lee’s killer by using the jealous boyfriend stereotype. It is also bad for his case when there are phone records and accounts of him acting strange on the day of her murder. Jay seems to be the only one that has a story that is sound enough to have Adnan as the main suspect.…

Things were always being taken out of the story or new details were being added, One of the main things that was never really set in place is where adnan called jay to pick him up. In the first interview with the police jay had said that adnan told him to come a spot where they would frequently get drugs and he said that he got there and adnan showed him hae in her car dead. But in a later interview that was totally gone and a new place was added into the story. Jay now said that adnan called from a best buy pay phone and showed him the body in the parking lot. Later the detectives had Jay draw up a map of best buy with the pay phone on the outside of the best buy.…

Is murder included when he says “anything”or is there a grey area. Going back to his own observations these are what make him the most questionable, Jay remembers way too many details about how Hae looked. If Jay killed Hae that would explain his extensive knowledge on the smaller details of the murder and the changes in story. The things he is sharing could quite possible be his memories that he now has to use to frame someone else unfortunately Adnan being the easy escape-go. Jay killing Hae premeditatively makes more sense she had something that jeopardized Jay’s relationship with Stephanie so her panned out how to kill her and ended up being able to frame…
