Farah Almedi was a young girl who was thrown into this world, she overpowered countless misfortunes, and through all of her tribulations stayed strong for those she loved. “you're going to go through hard times- that’s life. The Other Side Of The Sky: A Memoir was written by Farah Almedi, her book TOSOTS shows the world the troubles she had in Afghanistan, and the painstaking process of leaving the world she knew and moving to America. Farah Almedi’s past trials have affected her positively because she was able to escape Afghanistan and move to America, her mother was able to get the necessary medical attention she needed, and now has a broad spectrum of opportunities, and may do as she wishes.

Because of the violence, countless casualties arise (people/homes). Almedi knows these causulties all too well, in a place she used to call home “A Rocket hit our house…. Then I saw our house: reduced to rubble and broken glass. And then I saw the bodies.” pg 88-89. Farah lost almost all of her family very quickly. This would be a horrific incident for anyone, let alone a young child. This event no doubt left Almedi scarred, but it changed the way she viewed the world. “We [Farah Almedi and her mother] had barely gotten out of the airport and into the fast-moving current of cars flowing toward the city when Zainab turned and handed each of us a little package…. We have barely arrived and now they are giving us gifts.” pg 171. America was like an entirely different world for Farah. It was a brand new life filled with presents and adventure.
