When Liberty reaches him in the Uncharted Forest, he is overwhelmed with gratitude and bliss. “’ His vision, his strength, his courage came from his own spirit.’” (Ayn Rand). Just as they come across the cabin in the woods, they realize there is so much more to life than what they have experienced. This is the part in the novella where Equality becomes an “egoist”, in the most considerate form of the word. He realizes his true potential and desperately wants to fulfill it. “’[Equality] served nothing and no one. He lived for himself. And only by living for himself was he able to achieve the things which are the glory of mankind.’” as quoted in “The Soul of an Individualist”. Liberty proceeds to rename Equality, “Prometheus”. In the “godly” sense of the name, Prometheus is in fact an egoist. He thinks for himself and wants to do what is best for him. However, he thinks of his brothers at home, who have to suffer living the same life he has been freed from, and of Liberty who is now with child. Prometheus has an ego, but it differs from what society’s definition means today. Having an ego to Prometheus means being different, unique, and aware of your surroundings. He is an egoist, in all forms of the word except the derogatory
