The Day of the Dead is a holiday that is celebrated by people all around the world. Most people celebrate this holiday out of love and commitment to their loved ones. Mexico is the number one country that celebrates this particular holiday. One major mural in this holiday is a sugar skull. A sugar skull is a representation of a departed soul. The first day of this celebration celebrates both life and death. You can find sugar skulls on the streets made by people to sell. You give sugar skulls to people to take them back to their passed families. There is a lot of artists who make art celebrating this holiday. Some of those artists are Jose Posada and David Lozeau. During this holiday they host festivals celebrating this event. For their art they make masks, they do face paint, and they also make clay sculptures. …show more content…
They also have several rituals for this holiday. Some of those rituals are setting up altars with offerings, cleaning and decorating graveyards, telling stories about the deceased, and exchanging sugar skulls. Something really cool is that people think that on October 31 the children come out of heaven for 24 hours to visit with family. On November 1 the children descend back into heaven and the adults come down for 24 hours and visit also. On November 2 everyone says their goodbye till the next year. One fun fact is that Me da mi calaverita is spanish for trick-or-treat. On day of the dead people put the graves of lost loved ones their favorite food, candles, and flowers. Drinks are placed in the altar to quench the thirst of the dead after their long journey back home.The day of the dead is a very exciting holiday for most people and teaches us new
