Druids Myth

Improved Essays
The question of whether or not Druids really existed has been up for debate for a long time now and historians have never been able to prove it ether. Aside from a couple transcripts and a recount from Julius Caesar himself there is hardly any backbone to the myth. However, that has not stopped many authors from incorporating Druids into their stories, and having almost not historical limits to base themselves on has given them a blank canvas to get as creative as they wished. That being said, based of what little knowledge is available on the Druids, there are three main traits that every Druid seems to posses regardless of the story. Such as using herbs and potions to heal, forecasting future events and finally, whether or not they could …show more content…
In fact, Druids play such a big part in armed warfare that it almost seems that a good Druid would be more useful then great army. An example of this can be found “Before the Battle of Cul-Dremne, fought in 561 between the Northern and the Southern Hy Neill, Dermot, king of Ireland, who headed the southern Hy Neill – a Christian king called in the aid of the druid Fraechan, who, just as the armies were about to engage made an airbe druad round the southern army to protect it.” (Joyce 47). Many are unsure exactly what an airbe druad was but a few individuals have concluded that it must have been a sort of magic fence. One can only imagine how beneficial it would be to be protected by a shield with that much power. More specifically if it were true or even possible, would that not be something actively being used today? Obviously creating a magical shield of such is impossible, but it also seems that every other story with a Druid helping a military is impossible. There is almost no link to reality between the two. So it is quite clear that the Druids could not possibly be helping the military be creating “shields” around them. It is possible however that they would be helping in other ways but as an asset it is hard to believe that they were highly sought

The mythology of Native American culture is very eclectic and diverse, containing an array of stories about a vast number of cultural heroes, tricksters, primordial deities, and cosmic events. The Quileute people, members of a remote tribe inhabiting the Northwestern area of Washington state known as La Push, possess a modest amount of stories about their people. Though many of these stories have been forgotten, the Quileute people have preserved their creation myth, offering an elaborate narrative about the origins of their people and the element responsible, which captured my attention and became my primary focus of study for this project. Through extensive research, by the completion of this project, I anticipate to be fully knowledgeable…

In Celtic myth, a Selkie is a creature that lives most of its life as a seal, but sheds its skin from time to time, leaving it on the beach while it dances on dry land. After discarding their sealskin, Selkies are said to take the form of hypnotically beautiful men or women, which often makes them a source of fascination for fishermen. The most common folktales relating to the Selkie usually involve a lone fisherman spying a beautiful Selkie maiden on the shore and stealing her seal skin, hiding it away and forcing her to become his bride. The fisherman must carefully guard the secret of where her pelt is hidden, because she will often abandon her husband and children and use it to escape back to the sea.…

Out of all of the books that I have read I would have to say that my favorite character would be Dritz the drow elf warrior from the novel The Legend of Dritz. The novel is based in a fantasy world where anything is possible. In this case the story centers on a race of elves that live underground and are considered evil, and the entire civilization is full of betrayal and evil. Within this civilization an elf was born that was remarkably different and wasn’t evil like the rest of his race, and as he grew, he also excelled in the art of hand to hand combat and weaponry.…

Creation myths often serve as a storytelling method in which cultures discuss origins of existence, values, and beliefs. Two creation myths, “The World on the Turtle’s Back” by the Iroquois tribe and “Life from Moon and the Stars” by the Zimbabwe tribe, express similar ideas of God’s tolerance for disobedience. However, the Zimbabwe tribe’s God proves more lenient than those in the Iroquois culture. In both the Iroquois and Zimbabwe myth, God/the gods give their pupils multiple fresh starts after their misconduct.…

Their power surpassed even the most revered Chieftains. They had the ability to pass from waring tribe to tribe with no repercussions. On public occasions, no one could speak before the Druid had done so (Duddy 1996). To speak before a Druid had a chance to speak was a great disrespect against them, and an attack against their social standing. With their power, they were responsible for the settlement of private and public disputes and would pass of judgement on law-breakers; of which their harshest penalty was excommunication from the tribe (Duddy 1996).…

Most often when people think of healthy teeth, a pearly white smile comes to mind. One of the most common complaint dentists hear from their patients, is discoloration. In response dentists ask follow up questions about the patients consumption of Tabaco (smoked or chewed), coffee, tea, or dark fruit juices (Ex: blueberries, grapes, blackberries exc.). These are some examples of the worst offenders to teeth discoloration; other factors such as aging also contribute to the yellowing of teeth. With age the enamel begins to thin making the layer of yellowish dentin underneath more visible (Shanard, 2015).…
