Poe the Poem Master
“The purpose of literature is to turn blood into ink” (Source D) Literature affects everyone at some point. Whether it is writing something in class or reading a book for fun, everyone feels the power of literature. It is not just ink on a page or words in a book; it is the feelings that are meant to be shared. In his quote, T.S. Eliot expresses how the purpose of literature is not just about writing a story for amusement, but to express feelings, no matter what they are. Like turning blood into ink, an author is turning his feelings or emotions into a story. Without putting emotion into a piece of literature, what would it be? Literature is all about emotion and purpose. It tells a story, whether it is good or bad. It allows the author’s voice to be heard and felt. Literature is nothing new, but the point behind it is something completely misunderstood. Television shows, games, movies, and Broadway plays are all formed around literature, but that is never realized. Literature is able to impact society in a massive way. It can convince an audience to hate something or completely fall in love with it. It is never truly realized how literature originated. The evolution of literature is important to know. It allows the audience to feel exactly what the author felt when writing the piece.

It makes his work stand out from all the others. Onomatopoeia is a word that mimics the sound that it is describing (Source F). In The Raven, several times onomatopoeia was used. Words such as “rapping” and “tapping” are used to create the onomatopoeia effect. Those words are sounds which make them a part of the onomatopoeia rhetorical device. Edgar Allan Poe uses onomatopoeia in his poem The Raven to help the audience picture what is happening and what the narrator is hearing.
