The federal budget is a significant issue because it affects a giant number of people, any change could leave thousands and probably more without a job or proper care, or let their infrastructure fall apart. It is a delicate topic that many people have varying but strong views on. I am pretty liberal, but i’m not really sure what my ideal government would look like. However it would include much more equality than is in today’s society. My political standing would make me more inclined to tax the richer versus the poorer, and I believe that climate change is a growing problem, hence one of the changes made below. My three biggest changes to the current budget in order to balance it are cutting …show more content…
With this alteration everyone is kind of a winner and everyone is kind of a looser. Things similar to this in the past have been agreed upon and passed by the congress. It is a sort of compromise between the different things that officials with different views would want to cut, and something like this would be much more likely to pass than more localized cuts like the one I will do to the military. losers in this change would be the departments with larger budgets, because they would lose more money than a department with a smaller budget. Individual departments would need to find ways to manage the cuts and it would, in effect, be a small government downsize. But that is kind of the price that needs to be paid for a balanced federal budget. This change would take 208 billion dollars out of the deficit, leaving 275 billion dollars to be cut or made …show more content…
Though drastic, this change makes sense because we already spend far more on our military than any other country does. According to an article from NBC with data from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, In 2012 the US spent more on its military than the next ten highest military spending countries of (in order of highest to lowest spending) China, Russia, the U.K, Japan, France, Saudi Arabia, India, Germany, Italy and Brazil. This clearly demonstrates the united states’ superfluous military spending. Another example is the military's’ warships. It costs 13 billion dollars to buy one and almost three times that to develop and design them. It costs unwieldy amounts to maintain them and according to an article published by GlobalSecurity.org, as of 2014, the U.S had almost twice the amount of aircraft carriers as the rest of the world combined, but we’re still developing and making more. However these are just some of the examples of the government's extravagant military spending. After the previous sequester, this change would save the government 175 billion dollars annually, which is a very good portion of the yearly deficit. This large budget change would need to be implemented slowly though as to not worsen the economy, but it could be done. With the last two changes being implemented it would take another 100 billion dollars saved or earned to close the
