In 1950 the New York Times declared Ernest Hemingway, the most important writer since the death of Shakespeare. By dedicating his life to the ideal of writing one true sentence was the key of literature writing style. He was an icon of his age; he was a war hero in Italy, a white hunter in Africa and an expert deep sea fisherman in Cuba. Grace Hall-Hemingway gave birth to Ernest Hemingway in his grandfather's house, at 8 am, July 21st in Oak Park, Illinois. And like many Victorian children he was dressed in girl’s clothing, his mother liked to present him as the twin to his elder sister Marcelline. As soon he married one woman he fell in love with another one, and usually a much younger one. He was married 4 times. With his first wife Hadley Richardson, they had a son John. With his second wife Pauline Pfeiffer they had Patrick and Gregory. He was then married to the journalist Martha Gellhorn and then finally to Mary Welsh. That goes to show how passionate was Ernest Hemingway involved his loves life and his writing work. He was a very active man, he was always traveling and looking for new challenges. In his late years he suffered the death of his mother and right after, many of his friends died as well. In addition of his bad habit of excessive drinking made him decay and he was not the same person. He started losing his abilities to write and he felt that it was his essence as a human being, his point for being in earth.
