2. The Effect of Power and Influence on Followers in an Organization
Organizational success is primarily the outcome of two variables: leadership and management. A leader’s power would be ineffectual unless it is employed to influence others to execute decisions, foster change, and attain organizational goals. Since leaders use power to influence followers to achieve desired outcomes, there is an interdependent connection between leadership and power. To begin with, leadership, just like power, features a hierarchical component-leader and follower relationship. As such, power embodies the ability to influence, while leadership represents the process of exploiting this ability to change or affect the behaviors, actions, and opinions of others.
